They have composting bins on street corners accessible via app (so not anyone can throw stuff in there and you're aware of what you can and cannot discard in there). The main challenge in my neighborhood is that they are always full!!

For composting tips, it depends on the type - industrial composting is more robust than home composting. For instance, industrial can handle materials like citrus peels, bones, and ‘compostable’ packaging like PLA (which usually won’t biodegrade in home composting).
I haven’t heard about these bins in Brooklyn - what is the app called? Good to hear it seems oversubscribed... would be great for the city to have a composting pick-up service like SF where it is mandatory
